Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration

INSTITUTION:
The University of North Carolina Pembroke (UNCP), a campus of the University of North Carolina system of higher education, invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration. As a regional university of more than 6,000 students, UNC Pembroke offers 41 bachelor’s and 17 master’s degrees with a student faculty ratio of approximately 16 to 1. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (VCFA) reports to the Chancellor of the University and serves on the Chancellor’s Cabinet. Other positions reporting to the Chancellor include Cabinet members: Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs; Vice Chancellor for Advancement; General Counsel; Chief of Staff; Director of Athletics; and the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing. Non-cabinet level direct reports to the Chancellor include: Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management; Chief Audit Officer; Director, Title IX and Clery Act Compliance; Special Assistant for Constituent Relations; Assistant to the Chancellor for Communications and Research; UNCP Legislative Liaison; and an Executive Assistant to the Chancellor.
Positions reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration are: Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources; Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Research/Chief Information Officer; Director of Physical Plant; Director of Auxiliary and Business Services; Controller; and the Director of Financial Planning and Budget. The total number of employees in the department is over 300.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration is responsible and accountable for the key administrative and financial functions of the University including: budget (approximately $120 million), controller, business services, contracted services, purchasing, bookstore, human resources, facilities planning, project management, construction and operations, and information technology. Therefore, the VCFA’s division supports and advances the mission of the University by providing excellent stewardship of human, physical, and fiscal resources. All efforts are centered on providing the campus community with guidance and services that are valued, efficient and effective. These responsibilities are executed with the core goal of maximizing student success while honoring the University’s commitment to access, affordability, and inclusion.
REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will have a proven record in financial leadership and administration, a thorough understanding of issues facing higher education, and demonstrated competency in the functional areas represented by the Finance and Administration division. The individual must be effective as a visionary and innovative leader of people and programs as demonstrated through evaluation and assessment experience. Additionally, she/he must have:

  • A demonstrated commitment to the core values of UNCP: integrity, accountability, communication, collaboration, innovation, and service.
  • A record of innovative leadership in finance, strategic planning, and oversight of major projects including budget and management systems, preferably in a higher education or a government entity.
  • Documented experience with leading facility and capital projects.
  • A record of success in improving the management, quality, operations, and customer service of support/auxiliary units.
  • Exemplary communication skills; capacity to establish effective working relationships and communication with all stakeholders including the Board of Trustees.
  • A master’s degree in finance or business administration or closely related field is preferred.
  • Ideally, the VCFA will assume office in September 2017.

Commensurate with experience and includes competitive base salary and benefits.
