REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:

This position will report directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO) and will supervise a team of human resource professionals.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

The Director, Human Resources (HR) is a critical member of the HR leadership team who will be responsible for all operational HR functional areas, including compliance/employment laws, performance management, HR systems and technologies, compensation, classification, benefits administration, leave administration, workers’ comp, and metrics. In addition, the Director, HR will provide expert HR advice to the President and CEO, executive team, senior leaders, and managers.

Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Building positive and effective relationships, gaining trust with those in assigned territory and throughout the organization.
  • Communicating HR policies, laws, standards, and government regulations across the organization.
  • Conducting a continuing study of all HR operational policies, programs, and practices, recommending action based on new developments.
  • Conducting risk management assessments throughout the HR function.
  • Contributing to the development of a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Consulting with legal counsel as appropriate to respond to any legal employee actions against the organization (e.g., EEOC charges).
  • Conducting elevated investigations regarding employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints; promptly investigating and acting to resolve issues in a timely manner; guiding HR District Generalist Team investigations, as necessary.
  • Consulting, advising, and coaching Goodwill management team regarding employee behaviors, policy violations, substance abuse concerns, leave requests, and other issues needing HR advice.
  • Ensuring that every aspect of HR’s operations incorporates the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Establishing departmental measures that support the accomplishment of organizational goals.
  • Establishing the company wage and salary structure and pay policies, overseeing annual wage increase process; conducting divisional salary range survey review on a rotating annual schedule and recommending adjustments to all salary ranges as necessary.
  • Formulating and recommending employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee working environment.
  • Leading the annual strategic planning session for the HR team, including department and organization SWOT analysis; providing recommendations to the Chief People Officer for departmental/organizational strategic planning purposes.
  • Managing employee communication and feedback, and assessing organizational culture through employee satisfaction surveys, focus groups, newsletters, intranet, meetings, etc.
  • Monitoring and advising managers and HR staff in the delivery of the progressive corrective action system.
  • Overseeing implementation of HR programs through supervision of Essential (Primary) the HR staff.
  • Monitoring administration to established standards; identifying discrepancies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partnering with IT staff to manage implementations, upgrades, development, and maintenance of HR’s technology systems.
  • Preparing annual HR departmental budgets and monitoring financial reports regarding budget variances on a monthly basis.
  • Protecting the interests of employees and the company in accordance with Goodwill policies and in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Recommending changes in benefits offered, aimed at employee satisfaction and retention; overseeing benefit education and communication to all employees.
  • Recommending, evaluating, facilitating, and participating in employee and team development events throughout the organization.
  • Reviewing, guiding, and approving recommendations for employment terminations.
  • Working with established brokers, attorneys, and vendors to effectively conduct HR business.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of seven years of broad HR experience.
  • Five or more years’ experience in HR management with experience in a company or organization of similar size and complexity.
  • Strong MS Office skills, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong technical skills.
  • Experience as a Super User or system administrator of an HRIS or HRMS with experience in platform configuration, process build, report writing (BI), and experience in the configuration and management of an Applicant Tracking System.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in HR; master’s degree preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP preferred.
