REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to ­­­the Spartanburg County School District 2 Board of Trustees.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The individual who occupies this position will be responsible for the effective operation of the district, for the general administration of all instructional, business, or other operations of the district, and for advising and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees with respect to such activities.

Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Supervises and provides leadership for all district schools and facilities.
  • Establishes and maintains positive and collaborative relationships with district personnel and community stakeholders which are interested or involved in programs associated with the district.
  • Ensures that the district is staffed with highly qualified and competent people who provide quality programming and instruction designed to meet the goals and objectives of the district.
  • Consistently present and visible in the community, routinely visiting schools during school hours and after-school events to stay abreast of trends, issues, and celebrations as they relate to students and district employees.
  • Serves as the primary school liaison between the schools and other town committees and agencies, including Emergency Services and State Department of Education.
  • Enforces all provisions of law and all rules and regulations relating to the management of the schools and other educational, social, and recreational activities under the direction of the Board.
  • Oversees the development and execution of current and future curriculum and instructional programs, ensuring alignment with state standards and fostering innovative teaching practices.
  • Transparently keeps the Board apprised of all plans, programs, and issues that may impact the district’s educational system. Ensures effective communication between the Board and the staff of the school system.
  • Adaptable with the ability to manage a wide array of personalities and schedules within the district and the broader community.
  • Develops and recommends long-range plans to the Board that are consistent with educational, school safety and demographic trends as well as cultural needs, and the appropriate use of district facilities. Ensures that long-range plans will be consistent with Board objectives.
  • Manage the school district’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility while maximizing resources to support student programs, infrastructure improvements, and staff development.
  • Ensures that educational programs, school organizations, and services are developed and maintained for the Board.                                                                                                
  • Maintains adequate records for the schools, including a system of financial accounts, business and property records, personnel records, school population, and scholastic records.                                                                                      
  • Directly responsible for news releases and/or other items of public interest stemming from all district employees which pertain to education matters, policies, procedures, school related incidents, or events.                                                                        
  • Oversees district funds, physical assets, and other property to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Prepares and presents district budget workshops periodically during the school year.
  • Act as a professional in all matters relating to official duties, including but not limited to:
    • Keeping abreast of current issues and trends in education.                                     
    • Exercising sound judgment in matters related to the position.
    • Exercising restraint, dignity, and integrity in all decisions.
    • Protecting the rights and dignity of all students, district employees, and stakeholders at all times.
    • Upholding the laws governing the position as well as the directives, policies, and wishes of the Board.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.


REQUIREMENTS:
Certified/Eligible for South Carolina Superintendent Certification.

  • Superintendent or district-level experience preferred.
  • Earned Doctorate preferred.


COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
