Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Southeast-headquartered, privately held, food retail and wholesale distribution company.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
The Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will work under the general direction of, and report to, ­­­­the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. The CFO’s direct reports will include the SVP Finance for Retail, SVP of Finance for Wholesale, Senior Director of Treasury and Risk, Senior Director of Corporate Finance and Development, Corporate Controller, Corporate Internal Audit Director, and Enterprise PMO.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The individual who occupies this position will be responsible for the company’s overall financial strategy and operations, including financial planning and analysis, corporate development, tax and treasury, accounting, budgeting, and the administration of financial policies. The CFO partners with the CEO and other senior management to drive improvements in bottom line performance, working capital, and enhancing shareholder value. The CFO will provide useful financial insights designed to help senior management make better decisions about formulating and executing enterprise strategy.

Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Proactively provides senior management with financial and competitive insights designed to drive business performance. Builds an enterprise Finance department that usefully plays the role of ‘Data-Driven Challenger’ to line management, to ensure that the best possible financial decisions are being made.
  • Continually builds the capability of the finance team, improving enterprise capabilities in Financial Planning and Analysis, Corporate Development, Accounting, and all other aspects of the Finance department. Continually benchmarks the Finance department against best-in-class finance performance.
  • Leads financial reporting, treasury, control systems policies and standards, and all tax accounting and strategies.                 
  • Partners with the Chairman and CEO to approve all capital expenditures; reviews and approves leases.
  • Leads the annual budgeting process, ensuring that all budgets support the overall enterprise strategy. Plays a key role in monitoring, scorecarding, and reporting financial performance of all companies across the enterprise. Regularly drives employee awareness of company financial performance to ensure timely course corrections as necessary.
  • Oversees financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships.
  • Manages all company funds through equity and debt placements.                        
  • Ensures company compliance with all relevant accounting and financial regulations. Demonstrates the highest possible levels of professional integrity.
  • Continually seeks innovative approaches to enhance profit margins, reduce expenses, and improve overall ROIC.
  • Leads ‘post-mortem’ analyses of significant company expenditures (store remodels, etc.) to ensure learnings, improvement, and maximizing returns in future.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10 to 15+ years of experience working as a CFO for a $1+ billion company, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Experience leading FP&A, corporate development, accounting, and treasury and tax required.
  • Entrepreneurial with demonstrated experience in a fast-paced high-growth environment.
  • Strong executive presence with no ego; excellent communicator.
  • Analytical and intellectually curious; lifelong learner.
  • Demonstrated ability in team development and leadership.
  • Humble, hands-on approach with service mentality.
  • BS/bachelor’s and MBA degrees required.

COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
