Operating Partner, Human Resources

COMPANY:
A Southeast-based lower-middle-market private equity firm specializing in the consumer services sector.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
The Operating Partner, Human Resources will work closely with ­­­­the firm’s investment team as well as other operating partners and portfolio company executives.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Operating Partner, Human Resources will play a central role in driving value creation and key business outcomes for the company and its portfolio companies. The individual will provide strategic and operational leadership to all aspects of the HR function and serve as the strategic business partner to the senior management team regarding key organizational and management issues.

Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Develop and lead the human capital plan and all talent initiatives across the company’s portfolio of companies including recruiting, employment, compensation, benefits, performance management, training and development, organizational design and development, and change management.
  • Drive the strategic talent acquisition process at all levels of the portfolio while effectively partnering with all executive team members to anticipate and execute plans to address future organizational needs.
  • Ensure portfolio companies attract and retain high-performing talent at all levels of an organization, ultimately building employer-of-choice brands within specific industries.
  • Ensure that portfolio companies maintain people-oriented, customer-focused cultures with a mentality of growth and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement programs that produce superior employee engagement, dedication, loyalty, and productivity, including creating and driving communication strategies and plans to inform and engage all levels of employees.
  • Develop and implement a performance-based incentive culture.
  • Ensure all human resources activities and operations are performed in compliance with applicable laws; develop a rapport with outside legal counsel and proactively identify when situations are appropriate to work with outside legal counsel.
  • As a member of the operating team, serve as the human resources advisor to executive leaders across the portfolio with a commitment to creating an exemplary workplace culture of learning and performance that drives favorable business results.
  • In connection with future M&A activities, lead and manage the risk mitigation process of people and cultural alignment with the portfolio; integrate people, plans, and processes of acquired companies.
  • Manage all external HR service providers (e.g., benefits, payroll) and serve as a bridge/advisor to portfolio companies’ executive teams by handling questions, concerns, and potential changes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Over 10 years of experience working in a human resources leadership role; prior experience leading the Human Resources function for a fast-paced, multi-unit, private equity-backed business is highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience leading recruiting, training and development, and succession planning and development programs at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience leading the assessment, selection, and development of executive teams.
  • Skilled in driving organizational/culture change, employee engagement, and company-wide communication.
  • Experience in establishing compensation and incentive programs for all levels of an organization.
  • Proactive, approachable, people-oriented person with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on leader comfortable spending time in the field to engage with and earn the respect of the hourly workforce.
  • Strong business acumen; intellectually curious with a quantitative approach to business.
  • Experience integrating acquisitions and harmonizing benefits and compensation plans as well as organizational culture.
  • Sound familiarity with OSHA and other applicable employment and labor law standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in human resources or business a plus.

LOCATION:
The location of this position can be flexible, with a preference for a major metro market in the Southeast, and will require minimal travel.

COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
