Denise Newton is the rarest of breeds. She’s a native Charlottean.
After earning a degree in community arts management from East Carolina University, she returned to her hometown to work at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. From 1995 to 2001, she worked in a number of customer service and marketing roles, eventually becoming marketing and group sales coordinator.
After leaving the Blumenthal, she stayed in the nonprofit sector, working in development at both the Carolinas Healthcare Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network (part of the Carolinas Healthcare Foundation).
Denise earned another degree – in paralegal studies from CPCC – and embarked on a new career. She served as a legal assistant for Shapack Law, a small family law practice; a family law paralegal at Sodoma Law; and a paralegal/mortgage administrator for the Office of the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee.
Denise’s vegetarianism (mostly veganism, really) stems from being a huge animal lover and advocate. She fosters rescue kitties in addition to having “a handsome blue-eyed snowshoe Siamese named Jasper.”
When not rescuing cats, you might find Denise at hot yoga, a coffee shop or trying out the latest craft beer.
