Chief Operating Officer
COMPANY:
A high-growth retail supermarket company based in the Southeast.
REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer and manages a team of six direct reports including three Zone Vice Presidents of Operations, Vice President of Operations Support, Director of Quality Assurance, Vice President of Construction, and a team of over 10,000 employees.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of the company’s day-to-day operations and execution of strategic plans, driving profitability, and fostering a high-performing team culture.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Develop and implement operational strategies to support the company’s overall business objectives.
- Collaborate with the CEO and other executive leaders to develop and implement long-term strategic plans.
- Translate strategic plans into actionable operational plans and initiatives.
- Regularly interface with parent company for strategy discussions and update calls.
- Ensure the effective and efficient execution of daily operations, including store performance, customer service, and loss prevention.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer experience.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports to the CEO and executive team.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and growth.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of operational managers and team members.
- Create a positive and supportive work environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and employee engagement.
- Manage the operational budget and ensure alignment with financial goals.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 15+ years of experience in grocery retail operations, including in-store operations.
- Proven track record of developing high performers and building a culture focused on customer experience, as well as team member experience.
- Demonstrated ability to increase sales and create efficiencies in store operations, including the use of new technologies.
- Experience leading a group of multiunit leaders and ability to drive authentic leadership among those leaders.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to share strategies effectively with all team members.
- Nimble, able to pivot quickly and drive growth; experience in building new stores and remodeling existing stores.
- Ability to travel at least 50% of the time; some international travel is required.
- Experience working internationally or with an international parent company is desired.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field is required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
