Chief Executive Officer for Alexander Youth Network
ORGANIZATION:
Alexander Youth Network (“AYN”) is the leading provider in North Carolina of quality professional treatment for children with serious emotional and behavioral health challenges. Since 1946, the organization has delivered an effective and efficient array of services, enabling children and their families to exercise self-determination, achieve their potential, and become positive contributors to society. Today, AYN provides 13 different programs and services that include counseling, day treatment, and residential services across 75 of the 100 counties in North Carolina. In 2023, AYN served over 9,500 children and families via Intensive In-Home, Multisystemic Therapy (MST), Residential Treatment, Outpatient, and Community-Based Services. AYN’s nurturing and outcome-oriented approach led to:
- More than 80% of children served in Intensive In-Home, MST, and Community-Based Services being able to achieve treatment goals, which included remaining in their homes and at work/school.
- 93% of kids receiving Residential Treatment Services being transitioned to less restrictive settings.
- 91% of children and adolescents in Outpatient Services maintained positive or improved mental health outcomes.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the AYN Board Chair and Board of Directors.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The individual who occupies this position will be expected to provide vision and leadership to the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers, manage all agency functions through a high-performing leadership team, and develop adequate resources to achieve the Agency’s mission and vision.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
Strategic Leadership and Financial Stewardship
- Leading the development, communication, and execution of the organization’s strategic plan.
- Leading all aspects of developing a balanced budget, ensuring that sound practices and internal fiscal controls are maintained; leading and directing all functions related to human resources, financial support, and donor relationships.
- Actively promoting performance improvement activities throughout the organization and achieving specific performance measures, established by the leadership team and approved by the Board, annually.
Business Development and Fundraising
- Serving as the face of the organization to stakeholders, both locally and nationally; maintaining and enhancing relationships with community partners, public funding agencies, and elected officials.
- Acting as the chief fundraiser, partnering with the development team to steward donor relationships and dollars; contributing to the expansion of the donor base by working cooperatively with community leaders, legislative representatives, and leaders of similar social service nonprofit organizations.
- Consistently working to identify key internal and external opportunities and initiatives for growth, with an eye on technological and service model innovation, to drive the organization through the evolving managed care landscape.
Human Capital Management
- Hiring and leading an outstanding team to accomplish strategic and operational goals and objectives.
- Providing ongoing training and development opportunities for employees to enhance skills, improve engagement, and increase retention at all levels.
- Training and supporting members of the Board of Directors in understanding and fulfilling their role in governance of the Agency. Supporting Board governance through effective communication and meetings.
REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate should demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
Strategic Leadership and Financial Stewardship
- At least seven to ten years’ experience in behavioral healthcare management, including serving in a senior leadership capacity.
- A strong understanding of behavioral healthcare regulations, financial management, and strategic planning.
- A passion for the mental and behavioral health of children and the ability to articulate that passion across the region.
- Ability to plan, budget, organize, direct, and implement programs; adept at developing strategic plans, procedures, and projects to meet organizational goals.
- High level of political savvy and tact; an ability to be attentive to the perspectives and competing interests of various internal and external relationships: employees, program participants, members, families, youth, volunteers, Board of Directors, and supporters.
Business Development and Fundraising
- Strong relationship building, organizational and collaboration skills with the ability to find common ground, build consensus, and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders; ability to work effectively and proactively with people at all levels, and local, state, and federal entities; ability to act decisively while engendering a cooperative spirit with the Board, staff, donors, community providers, volunteers, developers, media, and the general public.
- Proven success in fund development and knowledge of current and evolving trends in philanthropy; ability to effectively use social media and technology for the purposes of marketing and development.
- Connections to the philanthropic and business community; ability to build strong rapport while building effective working relationships across diverse groups.

Education
- Master’s degree in social work, business administration, health administration, public administration, or similar field strongly preferred.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
