REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to ­­­­the Senior Minister. Direct reports include the Managing Director of Schools, Accounting Manager, Director of Operations, and Director of Communications. As a full-time senior staff member, the Business Administrator will also be the senior staff liaison with the Administration Ministry, Personnel Committee, Stewardship, Finance Committee, Planning and Evaluation Board, and Budget Advisory Committee.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The individual who occupies this position will be responsible for the coordination of the church’s general operations, with particular emphasis on the human resources functions of the church. Responsibility also includes on-site day-by-day management of the financial affairs, operations, and administrative matters to support the church’s programming and mission as set forth by the ordained staff, session, and lay leadership of the church.

Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to, three key areas:

Human Resources

  • General oversight of church staff; specific oversight of five ministry managers.
  • Responsible for managing church benefits package, including but not limited to, retirement plan, health insurance plans, and paid time off.
  • Work with managers and clergy in addressing personnel issues within the various ministries of the church.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a strategic staff plan.
  • Work with the Senior Minister in his/her supervision of associate clergy.
  • Develop a close, ongoing relationship with the Personnel Committee.
  • Oversee the performance evaluation process for all church staff to ensure timely and high-quality performance levels.
  • Maintain the Employee Handbook and ensure consistent application of employment policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations with regard to human resources, administrative, and financial operations/functions.

Administrative

  • Assist ordained and program staff through execution of the business operations of the church.
  • Oversee the overall communications strategy and ensure appropriate execution.
  • Oversee Risk Management (business insurance policies), including full compliance with CPC Youth and Child Protection Policies.
  • Oversee and evaluate the operations of the church, including schools, property, recreation, food service, and technology.
  • Serve as a non-voting member of various CPC Committees – Session, Personnel, Finance, Planning and Evaluation (P&E), and Property.
  • Serve on the school’s Advisory Council’s Executive Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Other reasonable church business-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Financial

  • Oversee the preparation and production of monthly financial statements.
  • Administer the operating budget and the endowment (including the Endowment accounting); facilitate the preparation of the annual budget; work with the Accounting Manager to ensure sound financial controls, policies and systems are in place and enforced, and manage the accounting of the receipt and expenditure of all church funds.
  • Oversee the creation and use of Restricted Fund accounts
  • Develop a close, ongoing relationship with the Finance Committee and support their projects and activities.
  • Manage all banking and vendor relationships for financial activities.
  • Prepare for and facilitate annual audit with the Accounting Manager.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in staff meetings (including Administration Leadership team) and small leader staff meetings.
  • Maintain a personal professional development plan and meet annual goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 15 years of experience with a minimum of five years’ experience in a nonprofit / church environment preferred.
  • HR knowledge sufficient to perform the HR administrative duties for a 100-person staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in human resource functions, including working knowledge of applicable employment laws.
  • Strong financial skills, including budgeting and analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Leadership presence and strong interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to complete multiple projects accurately, on time, and within budget.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software (Office 365 suite – Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Flexibility in work hours to accommodate occasional evening and weekend meetings/ events that occur outside of normal business hours (Monday through Friday).
  • Ability to work on-site with occasional virtual meetings.
  • Familiarity with church information systems is desired.
  • Facilities management experience desired.
  • Experience working with volunteers is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field is required.

COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary and competitive benefits package.
