REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report to and partner with the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Charlotte Region.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Chief Development Officer is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for shaping and advancing the philanthropic fundraising vision, strategy, and approach of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Charlotte Region, a growing, start-up organization undergoing a critical phase of development and scale.

This role serves as a strategic partner in building the organization’s philanthropic fundraising foundation and culture of philanthropy, designing a cohesive and compelling case for supporting and establishing the systems, culture, and metrics required to develop and maintain authentic and genuine relationships with potential donors and the broader philanthropic community.

As an early executive leader, the Chief Development Officer will play a hands-on role in setting strategy while also building infrastructure, talent, and processes to support sustainable growth.

Specific duties will include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Build, launch, and scale a comprehensive development program, including individual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, and foundation relationships.
  • Craft a multiyear fundraising strategy that sets achievable milestones while building toward long-term revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with leadership, including staff, board members, and CEO, to advance philanthropy for the organization; monitor and measure progress to ensure goals and objectives are achieved; work with the team to ensure timely and informative communication with donors as well as brand alignment.
  • Lead all capital and special campaign activities, serving along with the CEO as a primary liaison with major donors.
  • Develop new funding audiences and work in partnership with colleagues throughout the organization to create and enhance strategies to attract new donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Lead the cultivation and stewardship of prospective donors referred by the CEO and Board of Directors, volunteers, and existing donors, as well as leverage their networks; manage an active prospect list.
  • Ensure effective administration of gifts, communication with donors, and other fund information; ensure a strong system is in place for maintaining up-to-date and accurate records of contacts with donors and prospects; recognizing donors through new and existing programs.
  • Provide a high level of customer support and represent BGCCR in matters related to donors and members.
  • Maintain fluency in trends in philanthropy and actively participate in professional fundraising associations and industry; employ appropriate best practices.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in development/fundraising with at least five years as a senior leader in a philanthropically funded organization; experience building framework and roadmap for development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing a capital campaign; major donor cultivation and solicitation experience.
  • Understanding of the Charlotte philanthropic landscape, including major donors, family foundations, and corporate giving priorities.
  • Established relationships with key civic, business, and community leaders who drive philanthropic investment in the region; proven ability to navigate local and regional funding ecosystems.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and confidently with CEO, Board of Directors, and donors.
  • Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and to build long-term relationships.
  • Initiative-taking, action-oriented self-starter with strong organizational skills, especially with planning and coordination.
  • Time and task management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment; decision-making skills in a changing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking experience; excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in donor database management and fundraising software.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and best practices.
  • Passion for the mission of BGCCR.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant work experience (e.g., fundraising, nonprofit management, communications, or business).

COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, including a competitive base salary and benefits package.
