Coleman Lew Canny Bowen

Jasper County School District Superintendent

 ORGANIZATION:

Jasper County School District’s core principle is “Student-Centered…Future-Focused.” Instructional, financial, and all other decisions are based on this premise. Their focus is on the children they serve and on helping them to achieve their greatest potential in a safe and supportive environment.

The rural Jasper County School District (JCSD) is comprised of four schools on two campuses and serves approximately 2,900 students. With a student-teacher ratio of 15:1, JCSD focuses on providing personalized attention to its students and is proud of its commitment to career and technical education. They offer students unique pathways in areas such as aerospace technology, cybersecurity, and health science while also emphasizing college and career readiness. This is done through programs that allow students to earn associate degrees or professional certifications while still in high school. Approximately 15% of their graduates attend college.

The district serves a majority-minority student population, including a significant number of English language learners, and a high percentage of students qualifying for poverty programs. JCSD benefits from the collaborative efforts of dedicated faculty, administrators, support staff, and a deeply engaged community, all working under the leadership of a committed Board of Trustees.

With strong community backing, the board has consistently supported the district’s vision of delivering top-level instruction in high-caliber facilities. Recently, new modular classrooms with full utilities and tech infrastructure have been added at the Jasper County Alternative Program, along with demolition and site prep for future expansion. With a recently passed referendum, plans are underway to expand athletic facilities and develop early learning centers and additional career and technical facilities.

Jasper County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, which is dramatically changing the racial, economic, and employment characteristics of the county.
