Corporate Controller

COMPANY:

Publicly traded, global manufacturer based in the southeastern US.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:

The Corporate Controller will be a key contributor and leader for the financial operations. In this highly visible leadership role, the Corporate Controller will be responsible for building and developing a high-performing corporate controllership team. The Corporate Controller will report to the Chief Accounting Officer and will have primary responsibility for month- and quarter-end reporting and for producing accurate and timely financial statements of a $5+ billion publicly traded organization.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

The individual in this role will have ongoing engagement with the CFO, Global Treasurer, Tax leader, Corporate and Business Finance leaders, and other executives. This key role will also lead improvements to the financial processes, lead the simplification of the chart of accounts, and work very closely with the financial technology team to streamline the company’s global consolidation tool. This position is a high-impact role responsible for publishing the company’s financial statements prepared on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operations, including consolidations and preparation of financial reports in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Work directly with Business Controllership leaders who prepare the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing cycle to ensure the timeliness, efficiency, and accuracy of the financial reporting.
  • Ultimate responsibility for the accurate preparation and timely issuance of the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows, including other periodic reports in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Assist and collaborate with Corporate FP&A and investor relations to develop board presentation material, audit committee material, and earnings releases.
  • Drive integrity of global accounting and financial reporting, including appropriate information systems to maintain disciplined financial planning and control systems to report performance accurately.
  • Work closely with the Chief Accounting Officer in setting system transformation and process improvement agenda.
  • Be a key influencer with the Financial Technology team to execute the Chief Accounting Officer’s agenda and initiatives associated with systems (e.g., streamline chart of accounts) and process improvement (implementation of global general ledger account reconciliation process).
  • Continually evaluate opportunities to drive greater efficiencies and effectiveness in the close accounting process while ensuring a balanced workload within the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with FP&A on developing a process that allows for improved closing speed and detailed management reporting needs.
  • Work closely with the Technical Accounting team to understand and determine the appropriate recording of complex transactions on the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows.
  • Maintain cordial relationships with external auditors and consultants.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the business leaders to anticipate business issues, provide guidance related to accounting operations and controls and suggest alternatives that mitigate risks and support the achievement of business results.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the team by taking an active interest in their growth and developing them into our next leaders.
  • Work collaboratively across functional teams and at various leadership levels.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 12+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience.
  • Big four public accounting firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial, accounting, and management skills.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand business strategy while being detail oriented.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience of various financial ERP and consolidation systems.
  • Current knowledge of SOX compliance and SEC reporting, US GAAP.
  • Experience managing a high-performing accounting team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of initiative and ability to formulate informed financial perspectives.
  • Experience working with business partners located internationally.
  • Ability to develop, motivate, and influence others.
  • Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and meet deadlines while working under pressure.
  • Experience with global matrix organizations.
  • Must be able to adjust and work effectively in a dynamic, changing, and collaborative environment.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed.
  • Very good multitasking skills.
  • CPA
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; master’s degree preferred.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, long-term incentive, and a competitive benefits package.
