Managed Waste / Sustainability Services Business Leader

A private equity-backed waste management company based in the Eastern US.
REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to Chief Commercial Officer and lead a small but effective divisional team.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The individual who occupies this position will lead a new service offering focused on Managed Waste and Sustainability Services and will develop and drive the strategic business plan to develop a new comprehensive waste service offering centered on reducing waste, cost of waste, and promoting environmental sustainability to enhance and expand our market presence. In this entrepreneurial role, you will leverage your expertise to build a go-to-market strategy for providing managed waste and sustainability services offerings among existing clients, identify new business opportunities, build lasting partnerships, and lead a talented team to achieve ambitious targets.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive managed waste and sustainability program focus to support client needs relating to financial and sustainability goals.
- Drive and execute the commercial strategy tied to growing this business line with existing clients in the near-term, with a longer-term focus on leading new client growth via a managed waste and sustainability services program offering.
- Lead the design and execution of client waste management programs to minimize environmental impact and reduce the waste management costs of our clients.
- Collaborate with client teams to integrate sustainable practices into operations and supply chains.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of waste reduction/monetization initiatives, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability standards.
- Educate and engage clients and stakeholders on sustainable waste management practices.
- Prepare and present reports on program performance, including metrics on waste diversion and cost savings.
- Identify and foster partnerships with external organizations, vendors, and certification groups to enhance program reach.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainable waste management.
- Manage program budgets, resources, and timelines effectively to achieve objectives.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions with clients to ensure effectiveness of programs.
- Lead efforts to obtain and maintain relevant certifications and accreditations for waste management practices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop, maintain, and implement zero waste to landfill, waste reduction, waste monetization, and sustainability programs and strategies for clients.
- Build the team to carry out business offering; establish sustainability metrics and define key milestones.
- Evaluate client waste streams to design programs tailored to meet client goals.
- Grow revenue for new business unit created to support the business.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in waste management, zero waste to landfill business practices, and/or sustainability programs for companies/corporations.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing sustainable waste management programs and strategies.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines; excellent analytical skills to assess waste data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Experience in regulatory compliance and environmental policies related to waste management.
- Ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams and stakeholders; strong communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in zero waste to landfill and sustainability reporting; experience with technology and data management software utilized to support zero waste to landfill and sustainability business execution.
- Familiarity with circular economy principles and practices; familiarity with extended producer responsibilities policies.
- Ability to travel approximately 30%.
