Director of Talent Acquisition and Onboarding

A leading nonprofit provider of disability, behavioral health, and community-based support services.
REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO) and lead a team of 13.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Talent Acquisition and Onboarding leads the organization’s talent acquisition strategy and onboarding programs to attract, hire, and successfully onboard new employees across the organization. This role partners with HR leadership and operational leaders to develop and execute innovative recruiting strategies, ensuring efficient, scalable hiring processes that provide an excellent candidate experience and align with organizational goals and workforce plans. The Director oversees and drives full-cycle recruitment and onboarding programs that are designed to enhance new hire engagement, productivity, and retention.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Develop and implement the organization’s talent acquisition and onboarding strategy to support business objectives and long-term growth initiatives.
- Partner with organizational leaders to understand workforce needs, align hiring strategies, and support effective job scoping and selection practices.
- Lead, coach, and develop the talent acquisition and onboarding teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and customer service.
- Build and maintain strong talent pipelines and proactive sourcing strategies to attract high-quality candidates in challenging/competitive regions.
- Oversee onboarding programs and processes to ensure a positive and engaging new hire experience that supports retention, productivity, and cultural alignment.
- Collaborate with HR and Marketing teams to develop and enhance employer branding initiatives to strengthen the organization’s reputation as an employer of choice.
- Oversee the organization’s applicant tracking system and related recruiting technologies in partnership with IT/BI teams, ensuring accurate data, reporting, and continuous improvement.
- Develop standardized onboarding tools, materials, and orientation programs to ensure consistency across the organization.
- Manage external recruiting partnerships and evaluate vendor effectiveness to support organizational hiring needs.
- Monitor and analyze key hiring metrics to inform decision‑making, identify trends, and drive process improvements.
- Ensure recruiting and onboarding practices comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Lead or support recruitment for senior and executive‑level roles as needed.
- Follow all policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Five to seven years of progressive recruitment experience, including three or more years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience developing and leading recruiting strategies and onboarding programs in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization.
- Track record of building strong relationships with business leaders.
- Demonstrated success building talent pipelines, improving candidate experience, and driving recruiting metrics and operational performance.
- Strong understanding of employer branding, sourcing strategies, and talent trends.
- Experience in nonprofit, clinical, or human services environments strongly preferred.
- Professional HR certification (PHR, SHRM‑CP, SPHR, SHRM‑SCP) preferred.
- Knowledge of employment laws and compliant hiring practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and influence/build effective partnerships at all levels within the organization.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills; operates with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Valid, unrestricted North Carolina driver’s license; reliable transportation; and current vehicle insurance.
- Occasional travel to organizational sites or meetings may be required.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
