Director of Compensation and Benefits
COMPANY:
Manufacturer of commercial building products headquartered in the Southeast.
REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources/Chief Human Resources Officer.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Compensation and Benefits leads the strategy, design, implementation, and governance of the organization’s compensation and benefits programs to ensure they are competitive, equitable, compliant, and cost effective. This role partners closely with HR leadership, finance, and business stakeholders to deliver a comprehensive total rewards strategy that supports talent attraction, retention, performance, and business outcomes.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
Compensation Strategy and Programs
- Develop and execute enterprise compensation strategy aligned with business and talent objectives.
- Lead annual compensation planning processes (merit, bonus, incentive design, and administration).
- Create and maintain salary structures, job leveling frameworks, and pay governance practices.
- Conduct market pricing, benchmarking, and competitive analysis to guide pay decisions.
- Ensure pay programs promote internal equity and comply with applicable pay transparency and equity requirements (as applicable).
Benefits Strategy and Administration
- Lead benefits strategy including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans, wellness programs, leave programs, and voluntary benefits.
- Manage vendor selection, renewals, performance, and cost containment initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with benefits and retirement plan requirements (e.g., ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA) and oversee audits and reporting.
- Build strong communication and change management plans to improve employee understanding and engagement in benefits programs.
Compliance, Governance, and Policy
- Maintain compensation and benefits policies, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective internal controls.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for compensation and benefits legislation, policy interpretation, and risk mitigation.
- Provide program governance, approvals, and escalation management for complex cases and executive decisions.
Analytics, Reporting, and Financial Partnership
- Develop dashboards and analytics to evaluate program performance, cost trends, participation, and ROI.
- Partner with finance on budgets, workforce planning, and forecasting for compensation and benefits costs.
- Present insights and recommendations to executives.
Leadership and Stakeholder Partnership
- Lead, coach, and develop compensation and benefits team members; set priorities and manage workload.
- Partner with HR managers and leaders to support organization design, job evaluation, pay actions, and retention strategies.
- Support M&A integration, organizational change, and harmonization of total rewards programs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Eight plus years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits/total rewards, including at least five years’ leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of compensation program design, benefits strategy, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated expertise in market pricing, benchmarking, job evaluation, and salary structure development.
- Advanced analytical skills with proven ability to translate data into executive-ready insights.
- Experience supporting multisite, multistate, or global organizations (manufacturing and hourly workforce a plus).
- Experience with HRIS and compensation planning tools; strong Excel and reporting capability.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, finance required; professional certifications (CCP, CBP, CDBS or equivalent) preferred.

COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
