Director, Community Engagement
COMPANY:
A professional soccer club company located in the Southeast US.
REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The individual who occupies this position will be expected to assist in the growth and impact of the club through community-driven relationships and youth soccer initiatives. The role will serve as a department leader with many cross-functional projects in partnership with other club and company leaders. This position will operate in a professional office environment as well as outdoors in a stadium facility. Local travel to events will be required.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Develop and implement strategies to engage the community in existing and new programs that positively impact the region and encourage engagement across several key metrics that contribute to increasing access to the game and growing the club’s fan base.
- Lead the integration of community engagement strategies and programs in the development of new business opportunities.
- Strategize community engagement programming and events that produce a year-round activation calendar across the region.
- Engage and represent the club in major community-wide city, county, and state philanthropic discussions and initiatives.
- Manage inbound requests and general correspondence with fans and nonprofit organizations in response to partnership opportunities or financial support inquiries.
- Represent the club by working with Major League Soccer to align with and execute league-specific campaigns.
- Oversee the camps and clinics businesses, in partnership with the program manager, to deliver on annual revenue targets.
- Maintain an up-to-date awareness of MLS and industry trends, statistics, and strategies.
- Act as liaison among various departments to ensure community-focused projects are being highlighted and communicated on a regular basis.
- Identify club leaders and players who can help amplify community engagement.
- Maintain a regular cadence of communication with the various company entities to ensure alignment on initiatives and events.
- Establish a consistent reporting structure to account for programming KPIs.
- Prepare and deliver bi-annual and annual reports regarding businesses and the community charities initiative, outlining the accomplishments each season.
- Work with external charities counterparts to manage funding for various projects and initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience working in community engagement and with developing and executing community programs.
- 5+ years in a management or leadership role, with experience developing a team.
- Knowledge of soccer and the surrounding community is preferred.
- Must maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality regarding partner and club matters; must maintain complete confidentiality of privileged, and/or sensitive information.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt and adjust to changing needs of the business; ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Must work well in a collaborative, team-driven, and goal-based environment.
- Must be able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must be able to travel to and work in all club home matches.
- Valid US driver’s license required.
- Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Must pass pre-employment screens.
- Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration, communications, or a related field required.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, and competitive benefits package.
