INSTITUTION:
Delta State University (DSU) is a comprehensive public institution located in the Mississippi Delta in Cleveland, MS, with over 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled. DSU offers several degree programs on the undergraduate level which provide educational opportunities in the College of Education, Arts and Humanities, the College of Business and Aviation, and the College of Nursing, Health, and Sciences. Graduate programs on the master’s, educational specialists, and doctoral levels provide advanced training in a broad range of disciplines.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean of the College of Education, Arts, and Humanities will directly supervise five full-time employees while indirectly supervising 30 full-time employees. The College is organized into the following Schools:

  • School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
  • School of Leadership, Research, and Psychology
  • School of Teacher Education

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Dean will provide academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership for the College of Education, Arts, and Humanities, the largest and most diverse college on campus, and will serve as the visible ‘face’ of the College to internal and external constituents.

Specific expectations/duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Develop College strategic initiatives and create a positive work and learning environment within the College. 
  • Advocate to the Provost/VP for Academic Affairs for the interests of the College.
  • Balance the needs and expectations of the departments and College with those of the University.
  • Engage in effective budget management.
  • Provide oversight of university accreditation related to the College (SACSCOC) and oversight of specialized accreditation efforts within the College: Teacher Education, Educational Administration, and Supervision.
  • Establish processes for setting strategic directions for faculty performance, as well as student and program performance.
  • Fulfill the expectations of the University enrollment management plan as it relates to the College of Education, Arts, and Humanities.
  • Sustain/build collaborative partnerships with entities relevant to programs within the college.
  • Secure external funding through grants and/or development and advancement activity.
  • Provide effective human resource management oversight, including tenure/promotion reviews and faculty/chair/staff annual evaluations.
  • Administer policies and procedures affecting personnel matters, academic programs, conflict management, and student academic issues.
  • Represent the College in the Academic Council, University Leadership Council, Deans Council, various search committees, and similar entities.
  • Efficiently process paperwork related to the College and University.
  • Support faculty through faculty development.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of five years of excellence in teaching, research, and service at a four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of three years in administrative academic leadership at a four-year college or university. 
  • A record of, or the clear potential to develop a record of, securing external funding through grants and/or development and advancement activity.
  • Demonstration of familiarity with contemporary enrollment management practices at the college level.
  • Earned PhD or EdD from an accredited institution.
  • Hold the rank of professor in a college-relevant discipline at time of hire. 

COMPENSATION:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive base salary and competitive benefits package.
