Chief Financial Officer

COMPANY:
South Florida-based manufacturer and distributor of specialty food products.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the ­­­­Senior Vice President, who runs the overall business.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for directing all financial activities of the company, ensuring fiscal responsibility, compliance, and operational efficiency across manufacturing, maintenance services, and distribution operations. The CFO will oversee financial strategy, contracts, audits, reporting, banking, controls, and incentive structures while supporting growth and profitability. In addition, the CFO will build and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.

Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

Accounts Payable

  • Oversee timely, accurate disbursements for supplier invoices, utilities, leases, and service providers.
  • Maintain controls to prevent duplicate/fraudulent payments and align schedules with cash flow.
  • Verify invoice accuracy, contract terms, pricing, and quantities.
  • Conduct periodic reconciliations of purchase orders, receipts, and invoices.

Accounts Receivable

  • Manage cash collections for customer invoices and service billing.
  • Set credit policies and manage disputes.
  • Monitor aging reports, initiate follow-ups, and mitigate credit risk.

Annual Financial Audit (on time)

  • Lead coordination with external auditors.
  • Ensure the annual audit is completed on time and without material issues.
  • Provide transparent reports to the Audit Committee and leadership.

Asset Tracking

  • Track and value company assets, including facilities, equipment, vehicles, and IT systems.
  • Ensure accurate depreciation schedules and implement safeguards for assets.

Audit and Fraud Controls

  • Implement internal controls, fraud prevention monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review internal audit findings and corrective action plans.

Banking

  • Develop and maintain relationships with banks, credit institutions, and financial partners.
  • Manage credit facilities, lines of credit, and loan agreements to support operations and growth.
  • Oversee banking compliance and monitor treasury functions, including cash, wire transfers, and investments.
  • Negotiate favorable loan terms and ensure effective banking platform use.
  • Direct investment strategy for reserves, short-term investments, and growth funds, balancing risk and return.
  • Evaluate capital market opportunities (private placements, refinancing, equity partnerships).
  • Interface with multiple owners to align capital allocation and support growth strategies and future exit planning considerations.

Budget Projection (five-year)

  • Lead long-term budgeting aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Develop rolling five-year financial projections and scenario models.
  • Update budgets quarterly to reflect operational and market changes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, service, and distribution leaders to align forecasts with business drivers.

Cash Flow

  • Oversee liquidity and working capital for receivables, payables, inventory, and capital investments.

Contracts

  • Oversee all major contracts for compliance, risk mitigation, and financial alignment.
  • Manage sales, supplier, driver, employee, service, and equipment contracts.
  • Standardize contract management, including renewal tracking, performance reviews, and benchmarking.
  • Monitor expirations, initiate renegotiations, and implement CLM systems to streamline processes.

Cost Accounting (by product, region, route, and customer)

  • Track and report costs across product lines, regions, routes, and customers.
  • Deliver insights to improve pricing, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Provide cost/profitability data for incentive and bonus calculations.

 Employee Bonus and Incentive Plans

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide incentive and bonus programs.
  • Align incentives with profitability, cost savings, safety, and customer service goals.
  • Ensure transparency and compliance, communicate plan details, and track performance metrics.
  • Regularly evaluate plan effectiveness to drive engagement and retention.

 Financial Reporting

  • Prepare timely, GAAP-compliant, period-based financial statements (13-period fiscal year).
  • Consolidate reporting across all divisions for a complete financial picture.
  • Develop management reporting, highlighting trends, variances, and performance drivers.
  • Provide variance analysis versus budget, forecast, and prior periods with actionable recommendations.
  • Maintain standardized chart of accounts and reporting framework.
  • Develop KPIs to measure growth, costs, and production.
  • Deliver segment-level reporting for cost accounting and incentive plans.
  • Support tax filings and external reporting.
  • Continuously improve financial reporting using ERP and business intelligence tools.

KPI Dashboards

  • Design and maintain dashboards for financial, operational, and service KPIs.
  • Provide quarterly updates and real-time monitoring.
  • Link KPIs to employee bonus and incentive plans.

Maintain Records

  • Ensure accurate and compliant financial records, including:
    • Payroll – employee compensation and benefits.
    • Taxes – corporate, sales, payroll, and property taxes.
    • Contracts and Agreements – secure storage and retention of executed contracts.
    • Regulatory Filings – compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.

Team Leadership

  • Build and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide professional development opportunities and succession planning to strengthen organizational capability.
  • Encourage cross-functional collaboration with operations, sales, and supply chain teams.

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10+ years of senior financial leadership experience, ideally in manufacturing and distribution, preferably within a multi-company or multi-division structure.
  • Strong expertise in cost accounting, multi-division reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Proven ability to manage audits, contracts, banking relationships, and compliance.
  • Hands-on understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory management, and cost-of-goods tracking.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Experience also leading HR, IT, and data analysis preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, dashboards, and financial reporting tools (Sage 100 or similar); experience building and implementing KPIs and dashboards to drive financial and operational performance.
  • Comfortable interfacing with multiple owners or stakeholders and supporting strategic planning, including potential exit strategies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
