Chief Financial Officer
COMPANY:
Private equity-backed specialty provider of inspection, maintenance, and repair services to industrial customers across the United States and Canada.
REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will regularly interface with the private equity sponsor.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key strategic partner to the CEO, driving financial performance, discipline, and value creation across a dynamic, project-based services organization backed by private equity. This individual will lead all aspects of finance, accounting, reporting, and analysis while helping to professionalize systems and processes to support growth and scalability.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop and execute the company’s strategic and financial plan, ensuring alignment between business objectives and financial performance.
- Lead all financial operations, including accounting, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, audit, treasury, tax, and risk management.
- Drive operational rigor in a project-based environment, ensuring disciplined management from bid through execution, including as-sold versus as-executed budgets, WIP schedule management, and monthly close accuracy.
- Oversee percentage-of-completion revenue recognition (ASC 606) and develop best practices for project forecasting, backlog burn, and margin tracking.
- Develop and implement detailed forecasting models to enhance visibility into revenue, cash flow, and profitability.
- Partner closely with operations leadership to identify and implement process improvements across all phases of project execution, driving sustainable margin improvement and efficiency.
- Manage capital structure, banking relationships, and liquidity to support growth and acquisition strategy.
- Lead M&A diligence, financial integration, and post-acquisition performance tracking.
- Lead post-acquisition integration efforts, aligning financial systems, reporting structures, and performance metrics to ensure seamless consolidation.
- Drive realization of synergies across acquired business (Functionalization and centralization) – future and past.
- Focus on strategic value creation from acquisitions, partnering with operations and corporate development to develop a plan and KPIs to drive accountability.
- Build and develop a high-performing finance organization focused on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Upgrade systems and reporting capabilities to provide timely, actionable insights to the CEO and private equity sponsor.
- Serve as key team member on the ERP implementation (provide support on business requirements and best practices) and roll out – NetSuite.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required; MBA or CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least three years as CFO or senior financial executive in a private equity-backed, multisite, project-based services business (construction, engineering, or similar).
- Experience taking a company through a successful liquidity event is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with project accounting and forecasting; capable of bridging tactical detail with strategic financial leadership.
- Strong command of GAAP, internal controls, and project-based financial systems.
- Demonstrated success implementing financial discipline and operational best practices in a growth-oriented, private equity environment.
- Proven experience leading ERP implementations and scaling finance infrastructure.
- Energetic, collaborative, and detail-driven leader who operates with a sense of urgency and ownership.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams, partner with operations, and drive measurable performance improvements.
